μητέρα, moeder, mháthair, la mère

Two more weeks and I'll be into finals. I've come to the last part of all my classes, the final stretch to the finish line. It makes me think of the beginning, only a few short months ago.  I remember thinking I couldn't do it, I wouldn't make it, no friends, bad grades (well only in math), and a whole lotta negativity. But there was one person who really put everything into perspective: My mom.

I guess since it's almost her birthday I'll dedicate this post to her.  If you know my mom and I you'll know we're really, really, REALLY different...or maybe we're really, really, alike--it's still undecided.  However either way our relationship is best defined as  putting water on a blow dryer while its plugged in **explosion**  But somehow God found we needed each other to balance out the crazy hand life has dealt us.
After about two weeks into college I had given up, I decided to drop thinking it wasn't where I needed to be. My mom sat me down and told me "go ahead drop, nobody told you to do this.  It was YOUR decision Heidi and you can't make a life decision based off of what you think others want you to do.  If you go to college you need to WANT to be there, you need to be there because you have a purpose in going."

She was right.  I do a lot of things for others, good and well, not so good.  I'm a people pleaser.  My mom helped me see how life isn't just a pile of candy handed to you for good behavior, you have to WORK YOUR BUTT OFF.  Trust me, I worked my butt off, a few months later I'm passing math and am able to balance a job with school. But the greatest thing my mom taught me wasn't about perseverance in school she showed me how matter where I go, no matter how hard I try it's all nothing without God. He is the reason I live and love.  So Happy Birthday Mom and thanks for all the lessons you let me learn the hard way. :)
